| Don Brock's Acro Sport | |
| The Acro Sport
is a single place aerobatic biplane and was designed by
Paul Poberezney in 1972. The Acro Sport is a plans built
airplane constructed of 4130 steel tubing, wood and
fabric. The cockpit was designed to accept pilots up to
six foot five and 240 lbs. It is very comfortable for a
small biplane. The wings are straight instead of swept
back and are constructed with wooden spars and truss-type
wooden ribs. The wings use an M-6 airfoil, the same as
was used on the early single-place Pitts. I will be using
a 180 hp Lycoming O-360 with a wooden prop. The empty
weight should be around 850 lbs. and I feel the
performance will be very satisfactory. I will be using
the strong arm starter because this airplane will not
have an electrical system. The Acro Sport was designed to
be an open cockpit biplane but I preferred flying all
year round if possible, so a canopy will be installed.
This type of project requires that you learn several
different kinds of construction methods but is very
rewarding as each little phase of construction is
finished.
