Kory Branham & Rick Black's RV-6
Our RV-6 project was completed and test flown by me on Sept. 22,1999 out of Provo, Utah. First flight was a sweaty palms joy with no problems except rapidly rising CHT due to a steep climb on a hot day. Since then I've flown over 45 hours with my partner Rick Black. We added a small rudder trim trab and corrected a slight heavy right wing with the trailing edge and it now trims perfectly. One problem has been 3 episodes of cables breaking inside the wire end grips. Twice on carb heat and once on mixture. That one brought my heart rate up as I have an Ellison throttle body that has a free floating mixture control. When the cable broke , gravity took the mixture control to about one_half and it flopped around from there. At first I thought I had a fuel line blockage. A precautionary landing was made. After I replaced the cable I rigged a return to rich spring on the mixture control arm. Any one else report problems with cables breaking like that? I have a mid_time 0_360 A1D off of a Mooney with a new Hartzell prop. Empty weight fully equipped and painted was 1096 lbs. I have a basic IFR panel with a Terra radio stack as you can see in the picture. GPS measured speed at 8,000 ft., full throttle (22 in.) and 2500 rpm is 198_200. Have done quite a few aerobatics now am working on perfecting the very slow roll. Thanks to all at Van's for the great support and a great airplane!
